Maintaining Your Commercial Freezer
10
July

It can be really easy to forget keeping your commercial freezer clean and repaired when your main concern is fixing meals and setting tables. But we’ve put together a list of things to watch for when trying to keep your freezer clean. We hope they can help.

Things to keep an eye on

Spills and leaks

It’s easy when rushing while preparing a meal to spill something in your freezer and forget about it, but what’s not easy is cleaning up after the spills been there for longer than a day. Spills often lead to mold and sticky floors, so to avoid this by making it a point for each of your employees whether its a chef, cook, or waiter to know that if they make a spill to clean it up right away. This will prevent a lot of frustration and pain in the future and make health inspections go by a lot smoother.

Too hard to shut the door

If the door is getting hard to close or starting to squeak more than usual it might be because food has been lodged inside the crack. You can avoid this by assigning someone to wash it down once a week and using a lubricant to keep it smooth. Keeping up on the condition of your door can ensure that it doesn’t get loose or break in the future. Keeping food off and away from the door can help with this as well.

Temperature

Making sure your freezer is at the right temperature every day can help your food stay fresher, and help ensure your freezer lasts longer. It’s a good idea to check your temperature every day to ensure it’s in the right setting.

Cleaning the evaporator and condenser coils

The evaporator and condenser coils can be easy to miss but are very important steps when maintaining your freezer. They should only need to be thoroughly cleaned about twice every year, but continually keep an eye on them throughout the week to make sure they stay in great condition. If you keep these clean it will prevent you from needing maintenance on them in the future.

Old food

Make sure to throw out any old food once you notice it’s starting to go bad. This ensures you are only using fresh ingredients when making meals and will again make your health inspections run smoothly. It will also keep your freezer clean and maintained.
